Large Brass Mendicant’s Lota
19th Century
Height:57cm Weight:2kg
Alwar, Rajasthan
This wonderful Lota is in the style used by Sadhus, used for carrying water and a bundle of food in the top compartment; however this was probably made for the European market, as it would be cumbersome to carry. It has fine engraving similar to the work by Panna Pal, an Alwari silversmith featured on page 16 in Wilkinsons excellent Indian Silver book; Alwar became a centre for products for the Raj market.
