Superb Kashmiri Papier Mache Tray
19th Century
Length:80cm Width:55cm Weight 1kg
This tour-de-force of Kashmiri papier mache work is in the most complex of shapes. This marvellous tray features Vishnu reclining under the hood of Sheesha, who is being offered Amrita by Shiva, seated on a tiger skin with his consort, Parvarti, at his feet. Supplicants surround him; and a field of amusing Rakshasi form a border between the fowl and geese and macaque monkeys on the rim, all against a ground of flowers.
